PC 3648 Mark Pople has hung up his boots after over two decades of community service in Glastonbury and Street.

Serving under the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, his retirement marks the end of an era in local community policing.

Pople was an active presence in both Street and Glastonbury, not just as a law enforcement officer but also as a community participant. He regularly took part in council meetings, community events, and working groups, emphasising a proactive approach to policing.

Over the years, he built constructive relationships with residents from various backgrounds, actively participating in community betterment. His record includes receiving a Chief Constable's Commendation for his actions during a fraught incident involving reports of a gunshot in Street in 2015. Quick and measured action at the scene led to a safe resolution, highlighting his skills in community policing.

Street Parish Council acknowledged his contributions stating, "So much admiration and thanks to PC Mark Pople for his unyielding hard work; support and compassionate dedication to keep Street protected and as safe as possible over decades he has put in."

The news of his retirement has sparked a flurry of social media reactions from local residents who have interacted with Mark over the years. Debbie Masters posted, "Good luck, will miss seeing you around Street and Glastonbury, who else will I see running after someone on my way to work, whilst I debate whether to throw my work milk at them to slow the buggers down? You gave good chase. Enjoy parole, you've earned it."

Similarly, Elaine Cave said: "It's been a pleasure working beside you Mark, you'll be sorely missed by the team and the community of Street. Enjoy your retirement, you truly deserve it."

While details for an event to thank him for his service to the community are still in the works, his absence is already being felt across the community.

The sentiment from locals reflects a blend of nostalgia and gratitude, indicating that while PC Pople may have retired, his legacy in community safety and well-being will remain a topic of discussion and appreciation for years to come.

A spokesperson for Mendip Neighbourhood Policing said: "Thanks to PC Pople for all his service, especially to his communities, you will be very much missed."
