Glastonbury has won Gold for the fourth year in a row at the South West in Bloom awards.

At the presentation day held in Crewkerne on October 13, not only did the town scoop the top award, but awards were also presented to Glastonbury for the Mural Trail, and a cup for the Best Community space to Manor House Road Community Garden. A member of In Your Neighbour projects also received certificates of merit. The following evening, Mayor of Glastonbury, Cllr Jon Cousins, hosted the Glastonbury in Bloom presentation for those individual and businesses who entered the domestic competition.

The Best Front Garden was awarded to Gez & Bev Eatwell who gained 1st, 2nd Richard Squire and 3rd Kim Von Coels.

Best Rear Garden was also awarded to Gez & Bev Eatwell, Helen Bennett picked up a 2nd and Susannah Mitchell 3rd. Plus, a special award for the Best New Entry was achieved by Cavendish Lodge and Claire Perrett a good second.

The Beckets Inn was the Best Pub and Heart of the Tribe Art Gallery the Best Shop, the Gauntlet shopping precinct being a runner up.

The Manor House Road Community Garden, won first for community space and was also given a special award for Community Involvement use, Cavendish Lodge being 2nd and the Gauntlet being 3rd. The award for the Best Allotment was given to the Newton Family, Manor House Road Community Garden 2nd, which was also awarded 1st for Best Pollinator & Wildlife Garden, Helen Bennett 2nd and Cllr Serena Roney-Dougal 3rd.

Although entries in the competition were fewer this year, contestants all enjoyed the evening so the organisers are hoping for a larger number of entries in 2023. All the entries were judges over a period of one week in July by volunteers Mr Mark Penton and Mr Gerald Morgan.

However, the competition would have not have been possible without the support of the Glastonbury Town Council and the generous support of our sponsors. The major sponsor was the Crown Hotel in the Market Place, other sponsors include Forsey's Funeral Directors, Burns the Bread, Avalon Plastics, Heart of the Tribe Art Gallery, and Sydenham's Timber, their monetary is very much appreciated and a very big thank you must go to them. Dicketts Art Materials provided prizes for the children's poster competition and the Heart of The Tribe for the certificates awarded at the Friday presentation evening.

The Co- Ordinator's for Glastonbury in Bloom and entry in South West in Bloom wish to thank all those who took part and members to the Town Council staff who carried out dates to greatly assist the competition and South West in Bloom.
