Funeral details have been announced for Glastonbury councillor Nick Cottle, who died at home on 11 August 2025, aged 68.

The funeral service will take place at St John's Church in Glastonbury on Wednesday 10 September at 10.30am. The funeral cortege is scheduled to pass Glastonbury Town Hall at approximately 10.10am. A private family burial will follow.

Family flowers only have been requested. Donations in memory of Nick may be made to Kidney Research UK, either online or by sending cheques payable to the charity via Forsey and Son Funeral Directors, Willowfields, Lowerside Lane, Glastonbury.

Cllr Cottle served Glastonbury and Somerset with distinction across many years of public life. First elected to Mendip District Council as a Liberal Democrat member for the Glastonbury St Edmund's Ward in 2007, he returned in 2011 and continued to serve until the council's transition to the new Somerset Council, where he held a seat until his death.

During his time in office, he took on key responsibilities including Vice Chair of Mendip District Council and, most recently, Chair of the Planning Committee East at Somerset Council. He also contributed to the council's scrutiny work and was known for his fair-minded approach.

Nick was recognised for his service with an invitation to represent the district at the Queen's Garden Party in May 2020.

Cllr Bill Revans, Leader of Somerset Council, said: "Nick was a positive man and colourful character who tried to see the good in all and advocated passionately for and with the residents of Glastonbury. He cared about his special communities and would go out of his way to help anyone.

"His unexpected passing will be a huge loss to the Glastonbury community and to the whole of Somerset. Nick will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
