Glastonbury police team wins award for reducing crime and anti-social behaviour
Glastonbury's Neighbourhood Policing Team, alongside the Licensing and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) teams, has been awarded the Angela Yeoman Award for outstanding contributions to community safety.
Recognised at the recent Force Awards, the team was lauded for its success in reducing crime and ASB levels in Glastonbury by implementing a detailed, problem-solving plan led by Sgt Simon Lancey and PCSO Supervisor Bea Gane.
Under their leadership, each team member tackled specific areas such as intervention delivery, safeguarding, and community engagement. Their combined efforts significantly impacted the town, reducing reported crime by 26 per cent and ASB by 17 per cent from September 2022 to September 2023.
Local residents have responded positively, noting a rise in public confidence as they witnessed a real difference in the town's safety.
Sgt Lancey expressed pride in his team, saying, "The team should be quite rightly proud of this award, which recognises the hard work and dedication involved in policing our communities. Working alongside different police departments and partner agencies, we all agree that we were simply doing our job.
"Glastonbury is a community we are passionate about serving. The use of different police powers, council powers and engagement at all levels led to a substantial reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour, and the presentation of this award allows us to pause and reflect on the difference we've made to the people of Avon and Somerset."
The Glastonbury Neighbourhood Policing Team was supported in their efforts by key members, including Licensing Officer Nicola King, PC Amy Higgs, PC Katie Moyse, PC Hannah Hill, PC James Higgins, PCSO Mel Rowlands, PCSO Nik Burge, CI Andy Pritchard, and Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody.
