The Liberal Democrats have held on in Glastonbury after a five-way by-election for Somerset Council on Thursday, 23 October 2025.

Ewan Cameron topped the poll with 882 votes (36.4%) and will replace the late Nick Cottle as the unitary authority's representative for the town.

In a notable result, Reform UK surged to second place, pushing the Conservatives into third. Former Glastonbury mayor Jon Cousins, standing for the Greens, finished fourth.

The full result was:

  • Ewan Cameron (Liberal Democrats): 882
  • Henry Warne (Reform UK): 523
  • Lilli Osborn (Conservatives): 506
  • Jon Cousins (Green Party): 480
  • Gregory Chambers (Labour): 35

The seat became vacant following the death of long-serving Lib Dem councillor Nick Cottle, who had represented Glastonbury across several terms.

Reacting to the result, Glastonbury and Somerton MP Sarah Dyke called it "fantastic" and offered her congratulations to the new councillor.

"Many congratulations to Councillor Ewan Cameron," she said.

The win keeps Glastonbury under Liberal Democrat control on Somerset Council, which replaced the former district and county councils in 2023.
