Former Mayor of Glastonbury and town councillor Jim Barron dies aged 89

Tributes are pouring in for former Glastonbury mayor Jim Barron, who has died at the age of 89.

Mr Barron passed away peacefully at home on Friday, 31 October after a long illness. He served as mayor in 2014 and was a well-known figure in town life for decades.

His funeral will be held at Mendip Crematorium on Monday, 17 November at 3.30pm. Family flowers only have been requested, with donations invited for the Crohn's In Childhood Research Association (CICRA) via funeral-notices.co.uk, or by cheque to Forsey & Son, Willowfields, Lowerside Lane, Glastonbury BA6 9GY.

In a tribute, a spokesperson said: "Jim's dedication to our town and his many years of service will always be remembered with gratitude. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him."

Mr Barron is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
