Glastonbury and Street residents are to get a new bus link to Castle Cary Railway Station from next month.

Somerset Council will launch the 667X service in June 2026, giving passengers a direct public transport connection to onward trains.

The new route will run all week, including Sundays, using a low-floor accessible minibus.

It will operate alongside the existing 667 service between Street and Castle Cary Railway Station.

The council says the 667X has been timed to connect with trains to and from London, Exeter, Plymouth, Paignton, Salisbury, Weymouth and Gloucester.

For residents in Glastonbury and Street, the service could make rail travel easier without needing to drive to Castle Cary or arrange a lift.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council's lead member for transport and waste services, said: "We are really pleased to be able to trial this new service linking Glastonbury and Street to train services at Castle Cary.

"Hopefully this will prove popular, as it gives people the choice to leave their car at home and save money if they wish.

"The aim will be to ensure the route is sustainable long term and well used so we need people to make the most of it.

"We have taken care to tailor the timings, so the buses link up with the trains."

Somerset Council is also planning a service from Somerton and Langport to connect with train services at peak times.

At off-peak times, passengers may be able to book the Somerton Slinky, subject to availability, to connect with the 667X at Keinton Mandeville for travel to and from Castle Cary Station.

Journey planning information is available through Somerset Council's Think Travel portal.
