Glastonbury Town Hall hosted the annual Brains of Avalon quiz, organised by Glastonbury and Street Lions Club (CIO), with ten teams competing for the John Bromfield Brains of Avalon Trophy. The event, held recently, was both enjoyable and competitive, with Forum retaining the trophy, organisers have said.

The quiz format this year comprised ten rounds of ten questions each on a wide range of subjects devised by Lions member Mike Edmunds, with Chris Ford acting as host and question master. The evening raised £287 from entry fees, and participants were "extremely generous" with raffle donations that brought in more than £170, the club added.

Rounding out the top three were Tor 1st Class in second place and Middle Rump in third. A spokesman for the club thanked all who took part, those who donated prizes and the Town Hall staff for their help. Special mention was given to the key Lions for the evening — Mike the question setter, Chris the question master and Beckie, who liaised with teams on their entries.

The club said that rising costs of hiring the Town Hall and car-parking charges at the St Dunstan's car park mean next year's quiz may be held at a new venue, though plans have yet to be finalised.
