A local resident has tackled a daunting multi-sport race in Snowdonia to support the school pool at St John's Infant School in Glastonbury.
Faye Chadburn, conquered the Slateman Olympic distance Triathlon in Snowdonia yesterday, surpassing all predictions with a finish time of 3 hours, 50 minutes, and 17 seconds. The grueling race involves a 1500m swim in the Llanberis mountain lake, a challenging 53 km uphill cycling route on mountain roads, and an arduous 11 km uphill run at the Llanberis Slatemine. So far, her efforts have raised over £600 for the school.
The school pool at St John's Infant School holds immense value for many community members, offering a unique opportunity to learn how to swim and enjoy the benefits of being in a pool. It plays a crucial role in building water confidence and teaching a vital life skill, particularly for those who lack access to swimming lessons elsewhere.
But with government funding unavailable for this essential facility, the responsibility has fallen on parents and teachers to maintain it for over 30 years and rising fuel costs and a lack of funding, means it's a constant battle to keep the facility open.
Glastonbury, known for its vibrant community spirit, faces various challenges across domains such as income, employment, health, education, and living environment, as highlighted by the Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). Economic hardships often result in social exclusion and limited access to crucial resources and opportunities.
There's still time to donate to the cause, make a lasting impact on the lives of children and ensure that the future generations of Glastonbury have the necessary resources to foster their physical and mental well-being.
