Crime levels in Glastonbury remained relatively stable between May and June 2024, with a slight reduction in recorded offences, according to the latest statistics. June saw a total of 113 crimes recorded, just one less than May's total of 114.

However, despite the overall consistency, violent crime continues to account for the largest portion of offences in the town.

Violent crime, which includes physical assaults and domestic abuse, remains a key issue, with 46 incidents recorded in June, a slight decrease from the 55 reported in May. This ongoing concern continues to put pressure on local authorities, who are focusing their efforts on addressing this significant problem in the community.

Anti-social behaviour also remains high, with 21 incidents reported in June, up from 18 in May. This category covers disruptive behaviour in public spaces, such as vandalism, harassment, and noise complaints, all of which negatively impact the local community. The rise in these incidents is a focus for law enforcement, who are working with residents to curb this trend.

Other crime categories saw minor fluctuations. Shoplifting incidents increased from 6 in May to 11 in June, while vehicle crime rose slightly, with 3 incidents reported in June compared to just 1 the previous month. Public order offences, which involve disturbances like verbal altercations and threatening behaviour, remained steady, with 14 incidents in June, up from 13 in May.

Criminal damage and arson cases dropped slightly, with 6 incidents reported in June, down from 8 in May, and other thefts also rose, from 7 in May to 11 in June. Burglary, robbery, and drug-related offences remained low, with no burglaries or robberies reported in June.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police acknowledged the steady crime figures but emphasised that violent crime remains a major area of concern. "While the overall crime rate in Glastonbury has remained stable, violent crime continues to be a significant issue for us. We are actively working with the community to reduce these incidents and ensure the safety of residents. We encourage the public to continue reporting any suspicious activity, as this helps us target resources where they are needed most."
