Glastonbury has seen a notable decrease in crime rates in April 2024, with a total of 84 recorded incidents, compared to 117 in March.

In April, the most prevalent crime was violent crime, with 32 incidents reported. This is a decrease from March, which saw 51 violent crimes.

Anti-social behaviour, another major category, saw a reduction from 24 incidents in March to 15 in April. This category typically includes actions that cause harm or distress to the community, such as vandalism and public disturbances.

Public order offences covering crimes that disrupt public peace, including riot and affray, increased slightly from seven in March to 10 in April. However, criminal damage and arson cases dropped from 10 to five, indicating fewer instances of property damage and intentional fires.

Other theft, which involves the stealing of items not classified under burglary or robbery, decreased marginally from eight to seven incidents. Shoplifting incidents also decreased, moving from nine in March to six in April.

Categories such as burglary slightly increased from one to three cases, while vehicle crime remained constant with one incident each month. Bicycle theft remained relatively low, with only one reported incident in April.

Drug-related crimes saw a small increase, from one case in March to two in April, indicating ongoing concerns about drug activity in the area.

The possession of weapons was not reported in April, after one incident in March. Additionally, robbery incidents, which include theft involving force, decreased from two to none in April.

A police spokesperson said: "We are pleased to see a reduction in the overall crime rate this month. Our officers have been working diligently to engage with the community and implement preventive measures. However, we encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help us maintain this positive trend."
