Café plans paused for crumbling Glastonbury High Street building

A proposal to transform part of a listed property on Glastonbury High Street into a café with garden seating has been withdrawn, just months after being submitted.

The application, lodged in March by Mr Jonathan Henz-Smith and Mrs Poh-Chin Tan, outlined plans to convert the ground floor of 60 High Street into a commercial unit, while retaining residential use above.

The scheme also included a rear extension, internal alterations, and the replacement of a dilapidated outbuilding with a small studio.

The applicants stated that the building had suffered serious water damage over many years, including rot to roof timbers and joists. Some repairs had already been carried out, including work to the roof and shared hidden gutter.

The proposals aimed to support a viable café business, with a reconfigured interior and extended outbuildings to accommodate toilets, kitchen space, and customer seating.

It is not yet known whether a revised scheme will be submitted.
