Street's own Brookside Community Primary School has proudly maintained its 'good' status in the latest Ofsted inspection conducted on the 1st and 2nd of November 2023. The report particularly praises the school's commitment to inclusivity and respect, creating a safe and welcoming environment for all its pupils.

The Ofsted report specifically notes, "Brookside is an inclusive school where pupils from mainstream provision and a specially resourced provision for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (specially resourced provision) learn and play together well." This inclusive approach is at the heart of the school's ethos, where being oneself is celebrated and encouraged.

At Brookside, the mutual respect between staff and pupils contributes significantly to a positive learning atmosphere. The school offers an extensive range of curricular and extra-curricular activities, much to the delight of its pupils. A notable feature is the 'sharing assembly', where pupils have the opportunity to present their learning achievements to their parents and carers.

The report also highlights the school's effective personal development curriculum, which has been instrumental in fostering emotional awareness and independence among pupils. This prepares them to be active and informed citizens in the future.

Regarding the teaching methods, the Ofsted report commends the school's phonics programme, stating, "A clearly sequenced phonics programme is in place," aiding children in Reception Year and those in the specially resourced provision in developing their reading skills efficiently.

However, the inspection also identifies areas for further improvement. The report points out that in some subjects, the teaching does not fully ensure pupils' grasp of essential knowledge as outlined in the curriculum. This has led to gaps in subject knowledge, particularly in the early years' understanding of numbers and Year 1 number bonds.

Brookside's commitment to instilling fundamental British values, such as democracy and tolerance, is well-acknowledged in the report. The school's efforts to ensure regular student attendance are also highlighted, with effective collaboration with parents and external agencies playing a key role.

In conclusion, the Ofsted report confirms that the arrangements for safeguarding at Brookside Community Primary School are robust and effective, ensuring a safe environment for pupils. The school is now focused on refining its curriculum implementation to further enhance the learning experience of its students.
