Wells City suffered a humbling 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mendip Broadwalk, with even their own social media admitting the highlight of the day was the half-time Bakewell tart!

Coming into the game at full strength, Wells fancied their chances. Skipper Sam McErlain marshalled the backline with Jamie Wilkinson and Aaron Bryant providing some grit in midfield, but Mendip had other ideas. The home side looked sharper, and as the game wore on, Wells found themselves on the back foot, struggling to keep up with Mendip's pace and pressing.

The first half saw a few half-chances for Wells, with Elliot Moore firing narrowly wide and Dylan Whittle forcing a superb save from the Mendip keeper with a curling shot that looked destined for the top corner. But as the second half kicked off, it was Mendip Broadwalk who found another gear.

Wells' defence, led by McErlain and Barter, did their best to weather the storm, but Mendip's relentless attack finally broke through, leaving Wells trailing. And it didn't stop there—just as Wells were trying to find a way back, Mendip struck again, doubling their lead and putting the game beyond reach.

Desperate for a response, Wells brought on subs Peck, Ovigne, and Symes, hoping to inject some life into the squad. But Mendip's defence held firm, shutting down any attempt Wells made to claw back a goal. It was a frustrating afternoon for the visitors, who just couldn't find a way past a well-drilled Mendip side.

By the final whistle, Wells were left licking their wounds with little to show for their efforts. The team's official account summed it up best, calling the half-time Bakewell tart the "highlight of the day"—a brutal but honest assessment of a game where Wells just never got going.

Now, it's back to the drawing board as Wells look to regroup for their upcoming cup clash in Bath.
