Former Glastonbury player Jos Buttler was involved in the winning run-out that secured the 2019 Cricket World Cup for England in dramatic fashion.

Buttler, who played for Glastonbury from 2006 for three years and who grew up in Wedmore, ran out Martin Guptill in the final ball of the final's super over after England and New Zealand tied on scores after 50 overs.

Earlier Buttler scored 59 in the regular 50 overs and hit valuable runs in England's super over to set up a memorable victory, in a game that is already being hailed as one of the greatest one-day matches of all time.

Batting first, New Zealand scored 241-8, with Henry Nicholls being the only player to score above 50 by getting 55.

England's reply was stuttering until Buttler and Ben Stokes started accelerating the pace. Once Buttler was out for 59 the game came down to the final over and a remarkable few balls where Stokes hit a massive six, before getting another after running two and the fielder's throw accidentally hitting his bat and running to the boundary.

The scores were tied and the game went to a super over, in which Buttler and Stokes were back together, scoring seven and eight respectively.

New Zealand were in it all through their super over, and they needed two to win off the last ball, but the excellent throw in to Buttler enabled England to win their first World Cup.
