Street residents have just one day left to have their say on proposals for new 20mph speed limits across parts of the town.

Somerset Council's consultation on the proposed Traffic Regulation Order closes on Tuesday, 25 August, after opening on 5 August. The council describes the scheme as covering "Various Roads, Street", with the proposed restriction listed as a 20mph speed limit.

The plans remain at the consultation stage and have not yet been approved. Residents and other interested parties can still submit objections before the consultation period ends.

The proposal is being brought forward through a Traffic Regulation Order, the legal process councils use to introduce measures including speed limits, parking restrictions and other controls on public roads.

Somerset Council has published both a formal notice and a plan for the Street scheme alongside the consultation. However, the council's main listing does not name the individual roads affected, referring instead to the proposal collectively as "Various Roads, Street".

The detailed supporting documents are hosted separately through the council's SharePoint system.

Anyone who wants to comment therefore has little time left, with the objection period ending on Tuesday.

The consultation gives residents the chance to raise support, concerns or objections before Somerset Council decides whether the proposed 20mph restrictions should go ahead.

For now, the key word is still proposed. No new limit has been introduced as a result of this consultation yet, and the council will need to consider responses before deciding what happens next.
