Wilf 'The Eggman' Peddle passes away

By Laura Linham 12th Jun 2024

Wilf Peddle, affectionately known as "The Eggman of Glastonbury," passed away at the age of 74, leaving a deep void in the local community.

Wilf was a local legend, renowned for his dedication to delivering fresh, free-range eggs from his own hens to cafes and residents around town.

Though best known for his immaculate Morris Minor van, Wilf was also known to deliver eggs in a vintage tractor and, in extreme weather, even by sledge. His commitment to his deliveries was unmatched, regardless of the conditions.

Born and raised in Glastonbury, Wilf attended St John's School and spent his entire life in the town. Over more than 60 years, he witnessed and adapted to many changes, from the development of Windmill Hill to the rise of alternative shops and the closure of local banks.

Wilf's passion for his egg delivery business was complemented by his dedication to raising 17 Hereford cattle for beef.

Known for his simplicity, he shunned modern technology, preferring to maintain his 1964 van, which he had owned since 1972, in pristine condition.

In addition to his work, Wilf was known for his warmth and kindness, always ready to share a smile and a conversation. His life was a testament to the values of simplicity, perseverance, and genuine kindness and his legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and community spirit.

He leaves behind a town that will remember him for his eggs and his steadfast commitment to Glastonbury.

Rest in peace, Wilf. The memories of your friendly, reliable presence will remain a significant part of Glastonbury's history.
