Warning after Facebook Marketplace scam hits Glastonbury and Street sellers

Sellers in Glastonbury and Street are being warned to take precautions when using Facebook Marketplace, following reports that fraudsters are using counterfeit banknotes to pay for items.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, there have been a number of incidents across the region – including in Weston-super-Mare, Bath and Bristol – where sellers of items such as laptops, gaming consoles and mobile phones have handed over goods, only to later discover the cash they received was fake.
While no specific reports have yet been confirmed in Glastonbury or Street, officers say the scam could easily spread and are urging local residents to be cautious.
A police spokesperson said: "These scams often involve people offering to pay over the agreed price and rushing sellers to complete the deal. Sadly, once the exchange is made, the notes turn out to be counterfeit – and worthless."
They are advising sellers to take extra care, including photographing goods with serial numbers, checking the buyer's profile for suspicious activity, and never handing over an item until you're sure the payment is legitimate.
