More than 30 graduates from Strode College's higher education courses celebrated their success at a graduation ceremony in the stunning surroundings of Wells Cathedral.

The event, held on Friday, saw students awarded degrees and higher-level qualifications in subjects ranging from History, Heritage and Archaeology, to Contemporary Business and Therapeutic Counselling. The courses, run in partnership with the University of Plymouth, reflect the wide range of opportunities available at the Street-based college.

Rob Beckley, the High Sheriff of Somerset, delivered an inspirational address to the graduates, urging them to use their skills to give back to their communities. He highlighted the importance of volunteering, which has seen a decline since the COVID-19 pandemic, and encouraged graduates to support local efforts in any way they could. "If you can't volunteer, help others to do so; volunteering strengthens our bonds and benefits everyone," he said.

Among the guests were notable local figures including Glastonbury and Somerton MP Sarah Dyke, Street Parish Councillor Bryan Knickerbocker, Glastonbury Mayor Councillor Lokabandhu, and Wells Mayor Councillor Jasmine Brown.

One of the standout moments was the awarding of the Partnerships Prize to English with Creative Writing graduate Karen Collins. Her dissertation on Toni Morrison's work earned her high praise, with Programme Manager Amy Jones calling her an "academic powerhouse" whose work had consistently achieved distinction level.

Dr John Revill, Principal of Strode College, closed the ceremony by congratulating the graduates on their achievements and acknowledging the challenges faced by many of the adult learners. He said: "Studying as an adult comes with its own set of challenges, whether it's returning to education after a break or balancing family and work commitments. Today is dedicated to celebrating you and your accomplishments."

After the ceremony, graduates and their guests enjoyed a reception featuring live music performed by Strode College's music students.

For those interested in pursuing higher education at Strode, the college will be hosting an Open Event on Tuesday, 19th November, where prospective students can meet tutors and explore course options. More information is available at www.strode-college.ac.uk.
