Water is finally going back into Strode's main swimming pool after a closure that has kept swimmers out for nearly three months. The Street centre says refilling is beginning following work by specialist contractors Triwater, although a reopening date has yet to be confirmed.

The process is expected to take around two to three weeks, including checks on water treatment and heating. Staff will then look towards reopening the main pool and restarting lessons and swimming sessions.

Announcing the progress, Strode Swimming & Fitness said: "After some amazing work from our contractors Triwater, we are now beginning our process of refilling our main pool!

"We anticipate this process taking around 2-3 weeks whilst we also confirm all chemical dosing and heating parameters are correct and then we can look to get our main pool open to you all."

The announcement marks a step forward after a prolonged closure involving flood recovery work and investigations into historic problems with the main pool tank. Earlier this month, operator Freedom Leisure said technical measures were being tried in the hope of resolving the underlying problem.

Specialist contractors appointed through Somerset Council's insurers were also carrying out flood repairs. That work included drying affected areas, removing damaged materials and reinstating facilities.

Nub News first reported the centre's closure on 6 August, when customers were told an interruption to its water supply had forced it to shut until further notice. The upstairs gym, studio and small pool subsequently reopened on 7 September.

The main pool remained closed, disrupting swimming sessions and lessons. In its previous update, Freedom Leisure acknowledged residents' frustration and said work was continuing behind the scenes.

Strode's latest statement thanked customers for their support throughout the closure. It said: "We would like to take this time to thank all of you for your patience throughout this process and the commitment you have shown to Strode. It has been clear the positive impact that Strode has in the local community for health and wellbeing and we are excited to see you all back swimming as soon as possible."

A further announcement will set out when swimming sessions and lessons can resume. The estimated two to three weeks covers the refilling and checking process, rather than a guaranteed reopening deadline.
