Street leisure centre closed ‘until further notice’

A leisure centre in Street has been forced to close until further notice because of a problem with its water supply.

Strode Leisure Centre confirmed the temporary closure in an update to members, saying contractors were working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The centre will reopen once the water supply has been restored and it is considered safe to do so. No reopening date has yet been announced.

In its update, the centre said: "We regret to inform you that Strode Leisure Centre will remain closed until further notice due to an interruption to the site's water supply.

"Our contractors are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue, and we will reopen the centre as soon as it is safe to do so. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding."

Where members can go instead

While the centre remains closed, members can continue using their memberships at four alternative leisure facilities.

These are:

Tor Sports and Leisure, where the gym and group exercise classes are available but there is no swimming pool
Wells Leisure Centre
Shepton Mallet Lido
Frome Sport and Fitness

Gym sessions, swimming and group exercise classes remain available across the alternative sites, although the facilities offered vary.

What happens to cancelled swimming lessons?

Strode Leisure Centre has also confirmed arrangements for Swim School members affected by the closure.

Catch-up swimming lessons will be offered before the end of September wherever possible.

If two lessons are cancelled because of the closure, one lesson will be credited against the member's next Direct Debit payment.

The centre said it would provide further updates when more information became available.

Its statement added: "We will continue to provide updates as soon as we have further information. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we work to get Strode Leisure Centre back open again as quickly as we can."
