Street Striders to host 48-hour runathon to fundraise for new clubhouse
Street Striders Running Club is preparing for an ambitious 48-hour runathon, starting at 12pm on October 4th and running through to 12pm on October 6th. During the event, at least one club member will be running at all times, as part of a major effort to secure funding for a new clubhouse.
The club, which formed in April 2019 following the merger of two local running groups, has grown to over 120 members. They are now working to raise enough funds to build a permanent clubhouse on land provided by the Victoria Sports and Social Club in Street. The new facility would serve as a hub for members to rest, recover, and socialise after runs, and help the club to further expand its activities.
Funds raised will go towards the purchase and outfitting of the clubhouse, including heating, lighting, and power, to create a welcoming space for the club's activities. In addition to its running events, Street Striders plays a key role in the community, organising NHS Couch to 5k programmes, supporting mental health initiatives, and raising money for local causes like the Bridging the Gap Foodbank.
The 48-hour relay will be a major team effort, and the club is calling on the local community to support them through donations - the runathon will require a significant team effort to keep the relay going non-stop for 48 hours, and the club is asking for donations to help them achieve their goal. Donations can be made through their crowdfunding page here.
