Street Shoe Repairs in Farm Road is set to reopen after a wave of support from the local community.

Owner Steve Lukins has confirmed the shop will open again from Monday, 8 June, after previously announcing his impending retirement and the planned closure of the business.

Mr Lukins said he had received numerous kind messages and tributes from customers following news of the potential closure.

That extra exposure has also led to several people expressing serious interest in taking on the business.

For now, Steve intends to carry on at least until Christmas.

He said Street Shoe Repairs may have new owners by then, with plans for him to continue providing cover for days off and holidays.

That could mean the shop is open full-time, and at least six days a week, in the new year.

For the time being, the Farm Road shop will open from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

It will close at 1pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Mr Lukins said he is looking forward to seeing old and new customers for the same traditional service he has always provided.

He added: "Again, thank you all for your support."
