Street residents asked to have their say on market’s future
By Laura Linham 2nd Oct 2026
Street Parish Council is asking residents whether the Thursday market should continue after it cost the council £15,078 in the last financial year.
A public consultation is open until Thursday, 15 October, giving people the opportunity to explain whether they want the weekly market to remain.
The consultation asks: "Do you think the market should continue?" Residents can select yes or no and provide reasons for their answer.
In its announcement, the council sets out the market's cost alongside its support for other community organisations and facilities. These include Crispin Community Centre, Greenbank Pool and Strode Theatre.
The parish council also supports Street YMCA through a service level agreement and Street Library through a community library partnership.
The consultation is seeking views on the market's future, rather than announcing a decision to close it. The notice does not give a proposed closing date.
Responses will be used to administer and analyse the consultation, with comments potentially reported anonymously in findings and committee reports.
Residents can complete the questionnaire on Street Parish Council's website before the deadline on Thursday, 15 October.
