Street pub team to leave The King Alfred this month
By Laura Linham 16th Apr 2026
The team behind The King Alfred in Street say they will leave the pub later this month after what they described as mounting cost pressures and a lack of promised support.
In a message posted online, they said their final day at the pub will be Sunday, 26 April, with staff moving to The King William in Glastonbury.
The post said the team were "absolutely heartbroken" to be moving on.
They said the decision had been driven by "the rise in all costs, beer, rent, business rates, wages" and added that, as "a brewery pub", they had not received "the support promised".
The future of The King Alfred itself remains uncertain.
The team wrote: "Everything will remain normal until then however I don't know the future of the pub and whether it will reopen/ when etc."
Customers with vouchers have been told they can use them before the team leaves or transfer them to The King William instead.
The team are also planning leaving drinks at the pub on Sunday, 19 April from 3pm, with Jordan Hill playing.
The post ended with a message to regulars, saying: "We have made some lovely friends in our regulars that we hope to see over in Glastonbury."
