Street police open knife bin to cut weapon risk

A knife amnesty bin has been rolled out at Street Police Station as part of a crackdown on blades in Somerset.

Anyone with a knife or bladed item they no longer want can now drop it into the secure bin on West End, Street — no forms, no questions, no names. The force says it's about making the town's streets safer.

The bin is one of several across the Avon and Somerset patch, with officers urging residents to use it to prevent weapons falling into the wrong hands.

Every surrendered knife is "one less risk to our community," a spokesperson said. The Street station bin is available year-round during station opening hours.

More info is available by calling 101 or visiting the Avon and Somerset Police website.
