Street homes plan revived for back gardens on Orchard Road
By Laura Linham 11th Feb 2026
Plans to build two detached homes behind three properties on Orchard Road in Street have been resubmitted after previous planning consent expired.
Della Valle Architects have applied to Somerset Council on behalf of applicant Mr N. Baker for full permission to build the houses on garden land to the rear of numbers 14, 16 and 18 Orchard Road. The scheme replicates a design approved in 2022 but not completed within the time limit.
The two-storey homes would each have three bedrooms and three parking spaces, with an extra two spaces for number 14. The site would be accessed via a private parking area leading to the Clarks Village access road.
The proposal includes air source heat pumps, solar panels, water butts and bat, bird and hedgehog boxes. Gardens would feature native planting and flowering cherry trees to meet updated biodiversity net gain rules.
Previous applications dating back to 2010 have seen different versions of the plan refused, appealed and eventually approved. In 2022, Somerset Council confirmed that partial works had begun on foul drainage before expiry of the earlier consent.
The resubmitted scheme features no changes to layout or scale, but updates the design with sustainability improvements. It sits within Street's development boundary and outside the conservation area.
A decision will be made by Somerset Council in due course.
