Street family pet shop warns over fake website scam
By Laura Linham 20th May 2026
A much-loved Street pet shop has warned local customers after scammers appeared to set up a fake website using the business's name.
W G Grinter, a long-running family business on Street High Street, says the website wggrinter.com is not connected to the real shop.
The business has urged people not to place orders through the site.
In a warning shared online, the shop said: "This website has been created by unknown persons selling pet products using our details. This has been reported however we have been informed there is not much that can be done."
The warning has sparked concern locally because W G Grinter is one of Street's oldest independent businesses.
The shop has served the village for generations and traces its roots back around 180 years.
It began life as a butcher's shop before becoming known for pet food and animal feed in the 1930s under Wilfred George Grinter — known locally as Jack — and Adelaide Grinter.
Over the decades, the business became a familiar part of High Street life for local families, farmers and pet owners.
Registration details linked to wggrinter.com show the domain was registered privately through Domains By Proxy, LLC in Arizona in the United States.
There is no suggestion the real W G Grinter business is connected to the website.
Residents searching online for W G Grinter, Grinters pet shop, Street pet shop or pet supplies in Street are being urged to make sure they are contacting the genuine business before making any purchases.
