Crime in Street dropped slightly in July — but a spike in violent offences has sparked concern as police recorded more than 40 attacks, threats or assaults in just four weeks.

A total of 78 crimes were logged in the town last month, down from 86 in June, according to official police data. But while burglaries, anti-social behaviour and theft all fell, violent crime soared from 31 to 42 incidents.

Police say they're keeping a close eye on trouble hotspots and stepping up patrols.

A spokesperson said: "While the overall fall in crime is welcome, the increase in violent offences is something we take very seriously. These aren't just statistics—they're real incidents that affect real people, and we're responding accordingly."

Anti-social behaviour dropped from 14 to 8 incidents, burglaries fell from 9 to 3, and vehicle crime was down to just one report. Offences involving weapons also halved, and no robberies were logged in July.

Public order incidents—such as aggressive behaviour or public fights—remained relatively high at 11, while shoplifting and drug offences stayed steady.

The figures break down into categories to help track trends. Violent crime includes everything from physical attacks to threats of violence. Anti-social behaviour covers nuisance calls, public disturbances or verbal abuse. Burglary involves unlawful entry to steal, while criminal damage includes graffiti, smashed windows or vandalism. Other theft covers things like stolen phones or unattended bags.

Police say that crime naturally fluctuates during the summer, when warm weather and local events bring more people out on the streets.

The next update, covering August, is expected in mid-October.
