Somerset residents in Street, Glastonbury, and surrounding rural areas are reminded of the Slinky bus service—a demand-responsive transport option offering flexible, bookable trips.

This service is designed for those who may not have regular access to public transport, allowing locals to easily get to shops, medical appointments, social visits, or clubs.

Slinky is open to all Somerset residents lacking reliable transport, and as of 1 September, car owners are also eligible to use the service.

Once registered online, passengers can book rides by phone with 24-hour notice, making Slinky a convenient option for residents of all ages. Somerset Council is offering a 50% fare reduction for Concessionary Bus Pass holders and children aged 5-16, with free rides for children under 5.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council's Lead Member for Transport and Digital, said: "Slinky is an incredibly useful option for people in Somerset. It is vital if you don't have transport, but now it also offers a flexible, affordable alternative for people who don't want to use the car, or for younger people who just want to get around more easily without having to rely on a parent."

For locals in Street and Glastonbury, Slinky offers a unique way to maintain independence and enjoy flexible travel options. Registration is available at Register for Slinky - Somerset Council or by calling 0300 123 2224.
