Businesses, charities and entrepreneurs across Street and Glastonbury are being invited to put themselves forward for the Somerset Business Awards 2027.

Entries are now open for the county-wide awards, with 14 categories covering everything from small businesses and apprentices to sustainability, manufacturing and rapid growth.

And there is already a strong local precedent.

Glastonbury business The Sleek Easy Clean won Medium Business of the Year at the 2026 awards after competing against firms from across Somerset.

Street was also represented in last year's competition, with Harvey Lavallee, linked to Brookside Academy and Strode College, shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year.

This year's awards are free to enter and businesses do not have to be members of Somerset Chamber of Commerce to take part. Entries close on Friday, 20 November.

The competition is open to organisations with a valid Somerset postcode, meaning businesses and charities across Glastonbury, Street and the surrounding villages can apply.

The awards are organised by Somerset Chamber of Commerce, with accountancy firm Albert Goodman returning as headline sponsor for the 17th consecutive year.

Somerset Chamber managing director David Crew said: "These awards provide a valuable opportunity for businesses, charities and leaders across Somerset to gain recognition for their achievements, celebrate success with their teams and raise their profile among customers, suppliers and the wider business community.

"Our new categories reflect the ambition, innovation and leadership that continue to drive Somerset forward, while our established awards ensure organisations of every size and sector have the opportunity to showcase what they do best."

What can local businesses enter?

There are 14 awards available for 2027:

• Small Business of the Year
• Medium Business of the Year
• Large Business of the Year
• Family Business of the Year
• Innovation with Impact
• Charity of the Year
• Employer of the Year
• Investing in Somerset
• Business Leader of the Year
• Apprentice of the Year
• Sustainable Business of the Year
• Service Excellence
• Manufacturing and Engineering Excellence
• Scale Up of the Year

Several of those categories are new or have been refreshed for 2027, including Scale Up of the Year, Business Leader of the Year and Innovation with Impact.

That means the awards are not limited to established companies with large workforces. Smaller independent businesses, growing firms, charities and individual apprentices or business leaders are also among those eligible for recognition.

Applicants are asked to submit an 800-word statement, six key points summarising their entry and up to five supporting attachments, along with a high-resolution company logo.

The shortlist is due to be announced on 9 December, followed by judges' visits between December and January. Finalists will be announced on 3 February 2027, with the awards ceremony taking place on 19 March 2027.

Mike Cahill, partner at Albert Goodman, said the awards offered a chance to recognise work which could otherwise go unnoticed.

He said: "Somerset has a business community that's honest, hardworking and full of ambition, and we're glad to help shine a light on it."

Businesses and organisations have until 20 November 2026 to apply through the Somerset Business Awards website.
