Glastonbury Care Home residents have been keeping cool the old-fashioned way during the hot spell — with sun hats, sunscreen, shaded rooms, plenty of water and a steady supply of ice lollies.

Staff at the Pike Close home have been helping residents stay comfortable as temperatures rise, using extra fans indoors and drawing curtains to keep rooms cooler through the hottest parts of the day. Outside, Margaret has still been lending a hand with the watering, with hat and sunscreen at the ready.

The Glastonbury Care Home team has also been keeping things cool indoors, with extra fans, curtains drawn against the heat and plenty of water on hand. Staff have been wearing shorts to stay comfortable while supporting residents through the warmer days.

Ice creams and lollies have become the clear favourites at the home, offering a welcome treat when the weather has been at its stickiest. Quieter indoor activities have also helped residents stay entertained without having to spend too long in the sun.

The home, tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac in Pike Close, provides 24-hour nursing care for older people, including those living with dementia. It has 64 beds, four houses, communal lounges and shared landscaped gardens, where residents grow vegetables, flowers and fruit trees.

Residents also managed to enjoy a trip to the seaside at Burnham in the week before the heatwave. The outing gave everyone a chance to enjoy the coast before the hottest spell arrived, with the home saying the trip was enjoyed by all.

The care home said the simple measures — shade, water, fans, sunscreen and cool treats — have helped residents stay comfortable while still enjoying the best bits of summer. In true Glastonbury fashion, even the hot weather has not stopped the gardening.
