A local cleaning and property maintenance firm has been praised for stepping in to help clear a fly-tipping hotspot at Glastonbury's Red Brick Building.

The Sleek Easy Clean Ltd, founded by Street-born businesswoman Laura Summers, gave its time, staff and equipment free of charge to support the community-led clean-up organised by Andy Denham.

The site, on land owned by the Red Brick Building, had become a dumping ground for rubbish including builders' waste, fridges, bank cards, mummified rats and a bath-tub.

Because the land is privately owned, it was not down to Somerset Council to clear it. Instead, the job fell to the community.

Andy raised £1,500 to pay for a skip and digger, while volunteers worked from 8am to 6pm to shift the waste and open the space back up.

Sleek Easy Clean provided a tipper and two members of staff for the day, helping with loading, unloading and two tip runs.

The company's role became even more important when a needle was found among the rubbish.

A fully trained biohazard team member from Sleek Easy, was able to safely remove it, helping protect volunteers working on the site.

The company said: "We were thrilled to be asked by Andy to help our local community. We offered our Tipper and 2 members of staff free of charge for the day. It was a very hot day! We did two tip runs as well as helping load and unload the rubbish.

"We would like to thank Andy for organising!"

For Sleek Easy, the work fits closely with the ethos Laura has built into the business.

The company is best known for cleaning, biohazard work and property maintenance, but its wider focus is on helping people deal with difficult spaces, whether that is a home affected by hoarding, a property needing repair, or a community site blighted by dumped waste.

The business is not just about cleaning, but about helping people regain safe, usable spaces.

That approach was clear at the Red Brick Building, where the team brought both practical equipment and specialist training to a problem that had been left for others to solve.

The company has grown rapidly in recent years and was named Medium Business of the Year at the 2026 Somerset Business Awards.

It has also expanded its building and maintenance arm, allowing the team to deal with both cleaning and repair work under one roof.

But the Red Brick clean-up showed another side to the business: a local firm willing to turn up, get stuck in and support the place it serves.

The Red Brick Building team thanked everyone involved after the clean-up, including Andy Denham and his family, Glastonbury litter pickers, Sleek Easy Clean, the Red Brick community, Cllr Ewan Cameron, Mike Pople, Somerset Waste Partnership and Glastonbury Skips.

They said: "From a huge pile of rubble and waste to a clear, open space ready for a fresh start… this is what community looks like."

CCTV has now been installed at the site to help prevent further fly-tipping.

For Glastonbury, the clean-up was a reminder of what can happen when residents, councillors, local groups and businesses work together.

For Sleek Easy, it was a practical example of the company's community-minded approach: seeing a problem, bringing the right people and tools, and helping leave somewhere safer than they found it.
