The Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury is set to re-open this week with coronavirus safety measures in place.

The museum is being re-opened by the South West Heritage Trust on Wednesday (August 12) from 10am to 5pm with admission by advance booking only.

It will then be open Wednesdays to Saturdays, with the Grain Store Cafe and shop also both opening.

In terms of safety measures, the museum are limiting the numbers of visitors who can access the site through the use of the online booking system. It also enables them to comply with the Test and Trace requirement.

They will monitor visitor numbers in different areas and will intervene if they feel an area is getting too busy.

Where possible the trust has increased air flow around the museum, there is a one-way route around the site.

Perspex screens are installed at the Welcome Desk, and staff may be wearing visors or masks as appropriate.

There will be a continual cleaning regime, paying special attention to high touch points such as door handles.

The interactive displays which require touch have been removed, and the children's trails are prepared 72 hours in advance and their prize will be the special pencil they use to complete the trail.

Ahead of the re-opening, the trust consulted the public to seek their views on a range of issues.

Tom Mayberry, chief executive of the South West Heritage Trust, said: "We're most grateful to everyone who responded to our online surveys.

"The results provided us with some very helpful information to guide re-opening and told us what matters to our visitors. We're now very much looking forward to welcoming the public back.

"We are launching a new programme, Together Again, which includes enhanced opportunities to engage digitally with heritage.

"We are working with local partners to open two new art exhibitions, which will be accessible onsite and online. We will also be launching a programme of online talks this autumn."
