Shoemakers Museum opens tomorrow in Street

Street is gearing up for a big day tomorrow as the Shoemakers Museum throws open its doors, celebrating 200 years of Clarks in the village where it all began.
The new attraction at Clarks Village is set inside The Grange, a mix of a 16th-century manor house, a 17th-century barn and a modern glass extension. Inside, visitors will find four galleries crammed with treasures from the Clarks archive – from handmade slippers to desert boots, school shoes to Britpop stagewear.
It's not just shoes on show. Families can step into recreated 1950s and 1980s shops, see the machines that once powered the factory floor, and even discover a fossil gallery, showcasing marine reptiles dug up under the Clarks site.
The museum will open daily from 10am to 5pm, with tickets valid for unlimited visits all year. The café, already open, serves up locally sourced lunches, cakes and coffee, while visitors can also enjoy the walled garden and orchard for free with admission.
