The Hawk and Owl Trust is inviting women from Glastonbury and the surrounding areas to join its monthly 'Well Woman Walks' at Shapwick Moor Nature Reserve, with the next walk set for Monday, 30 September, from 10am to 12pm.

The walks, which began in early 2023, are designed to support women's mental wellbeing by providing a peaceful environment for them to connect with nature. They are open to women of all ages and fitness levels, and each session accommodates up to 15 participants. The walks take place on the last Monday of each month and are led by Alex Learmont, Shapwick Moor Nature Reserve Warden & Outreach Officer.

"The Well Woman Walks began after several local women expressed a desire to engage more deeply with nature in a supportive environment. These walks have become a safe space for women to leave behind the pressures of daily life and enjoy the calming surroundings of Shapwick Moor," said Alex Learmont.

Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and bring binoculars to fully experience the wildlife and scenic beauty of the Somerset Wetlands National Nature Reserve. The route includes both hardstanding tracks and grassy fields, with some uneven steps, a stile, and a wooden footbridge.

Regular participant Julie Slater shared her enthusiasm for the walks, saying, "These walks give me the chance to learn more about nature and spend time with like-minded women. I always leave with a smile on my face, eager for the next one."

Starting in October, the Hawk and Owl Trust will also introduce 'Warden's Walks', open to all visitors and designed to showcase the changing wildlife of the reserve through the seasons.
