Three bleed kits installed in Glastonbury town centre
Life-saving bleed kits installed in Glastonbury town centre
Three life-saving bleed control kits have been installed in Glastonbury town centre, providing essential emergency equipment to help prevent fatalities from severe bleeding. Funded by the Avon & Somerset Police & Crime Commissioner, the bleed kits have been donated to local businesses and strategically placed to be easily accessible in critical situations.
The bleed kits are now located at:
- The King William Inn, Glastonbury
- Labyrinth Books
- Glastonbury Police Hub, Magdalene Street
The project highlights the importance of having these kits in both rural and urban areas. A spokesperson said, "A catastrophic bleed can occur anywhere. The installation of these kits in Glastonbury is just as crucial as in cities."
What are bleed control kits and how do they save lives?
A bleed control kit is designed to stem life-threatening bleeding following serious accidents, such as car crashes, workplace injuries, or falls. Each kit contains trauma dressings, haemostatic gauze, and tourniquets that can be used by the public to control bleeding before emergency services arrive.
The contents of a typical bleed kit include:
- Trauma dressing: controls moderate bleeding.
- Haemostatic gauze: designed for severe haemorrhages.
- Chest seal: used for chest wounds.
- Tourniquet: cuts off blood flow to stem a major bleed, used under professional guidance.
- Nitrile gloves: to protect the person assisting the injured.
- Scissors: for cutting away clothing in an emergency.
More kits are planned for Glastonbury as the project seeks additional suitable locations for installation.
These new installations are a proactive measure to ensure that vital, life-saving equipment is available in Glastonbury for anyone who might need it.
