Sarah Dyke MP to host crisis talks with Glastonbury businesses over anti‑social behaviour

Glastonbury MP Sarah Dyke is looking to set up a crunch meeting with business owners in a bid to tackle the wave of anti-social behaviour that's left the town feeling under siege.
Ms Dyke, who raised the issue at Prime Minister's Questions, says enough is enough — and now wants those on the front line of the High Street to help shape the solution.
She'll be hosting a roundtable meeting in July to give local traders a chance to speak out about the problems blighting the town.
It comes after she spoke to police, residents, business owners, church leaders and town councillors about growing concerns. Ms Dyke has already written to Somerset Council asking for a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to be brought back, giving police powers to seize alcohol and illegal substances from those causing trouble on the streets.
She insists the order would not target any particular group and would not affect people socialising peacefully.
Ms Dyke said: "The PSPO would form part of a multi-pronged strategy to really get to grips with the anti-social behaviour which is plaguing the town and making people feel unsafe."
She added that mental health, drug and alcohol support for vulnerable people must also be part of the plan.
"This is about working together. I want to make sure all voices are heard. That's why I'll be convening a roundtable of local business owners next month, as well as meeting with charities, support organisations and representatives of the non bricks and mortar community."
She said she was confident that by pulling together, Glastonbury could tackle the issue head-on and make sure it remains "a unique, diverse and wonderful place to live, work and visit."
The event is being organised in partnership with Street and Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce.
