A total of 36 arrests were made during the Glastonbury Festival 2023, police say.

In addition to the arrests, law enforcement recorded 134 incidents ranging from thefts and drug offences to instances of violence and sexual misconduct. This marks a decrease from last year's festival at Worthy Farm, where police registered 205 crimes and made 19 arrests.

The previous event cost an estimated £1.3 million to police.

The data for this year's festival includes for the first time incidents and arrests made outside the festival's main grounds, including the periphery, approach roads, and car parks.

The police breakdown of the 134 incidents includes 32 thefts, 21 drug offences, 27 acts of violence, eight sexual offences, three cases of possession of an offensive weapon, one public order offence, one case of fraud, one burglary, and 40 other crime-related incidents.

'Crime-related incidents' are those where there is suspicion that a crime may have occurred, but no immediate victim can be identified.

Avon and Somerset Police adopted a "neighbourhood-style" approach to policing the festival, as it does each year, in collaboration with the event organisers. This strategy involves uniformed officers, officers on horseback, and officers on bicycles performing regular patrols throughout the festival grounds.

A police spokesman said: "Our dedicated officers worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all festival-goers. Despite the challenging environment, the 'neighbourhood-style' policing approach worked effectively, enhancing the sense of community during the event and leading to a decrease in overall crime incidents."
