Reform closes gap in Street and Glastonbury as Lib Dems hold lead in new election poll

By Laura Linham   12th Oct 2025

If there were a general election today, the Lib Dems would hang on in both Mendip seats — but Reform UK is breathing down their necks.

A poll of 13,000 voters suggests the Lib Dems would retain Wells and Mendip Hills and Glastonbury and Somerton, but with Reform now firmly in second place and the Tories trailing behind.

In Wells and Mendip Hills, the Lib Dems are projected to take 44% of the vote, Reform 25% and the Conservatives just 15%. In Glastonbury and Somerton, it's 39% Lib Dem, 26% Reform and 19% Tory.

Seat-by-seat analysis by YouGov suggests Reform would win 311 seats across the country — just short of a majority, but enough to block any other party from forming a government.

The Conservatives — who once held both constituencies — are now languishing in third, while Labour is facing a historic collapse. The data points to Labour's worst result since 1931.
