Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious incident in Glastonbury on Sunday evening (October 13), after an altercation between a group of men led to a major emergency services response in the Beckery area.
Officers were called to Beckery Old Road at around 5:30pm, with armed police and a helicopter from the National Police Air Service dispatched to assist local officers.
Three men were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. One man has since been arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident.
Chief Inspector Andy Pritchard said: "A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray yesterday evening. He remains in custody and will be interviewed by detectives investigating this incident. "We are aware there has been some inaccurate speculation about this incident and the nature of the injuries, and hope this update helps people to understand what happened and the latest status of our inquiries.
"We wish to reassure the public we believed this to be an isolated incident. However, the local neighbourhood teams will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area over the coming days to provide additional reassurance."
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) confirmed: "We were called at 5:42pm on Sunday 13 October to an incident near Glastonbury. We sent three double-crewed ambulances, an air ambulance, two operations officers, two critical care cars and the hazardous area response team to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital and two patients by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital."
Avon and Somerset Police are now asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help their investigation to get in touch.
"If you have any information, no matter how small, it could be vital to our investigation," said a police spokesperson.
Anyone with information is urged to contact 101, quoting reference number 5224270182.
