The Mid-Somerset Branch of the RAF Association will hold its Battle of Britain commemoration service at Street Methodist Church in Leigh Road on Sunday, 13 September, starting at 10.30 am. The public service will commemorate the 86th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the service of RAF personnel during the Second World War and subsequent conflicts.

The service will be led by branch chaplain the Reverend Collin Moore, minister at Street Methodist Church, and is open to everyone. The Mid-Somerset Branch of the RAF Association has confirmed that local RAF Air Cadet squadrons will parade, with civic representatives also expected to attend.

Among those due to be present are General Sir Peter Wall DL, representing the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, the High Sheriff of Somerset, the mayors of Wells and Glastonbury and the chair of Street Parish Council. The branch has described the commemoration as an important public-facing event and is encouraging members, friends and residents to support it.

After the church service, those attending will move to Street War Memorial in Merriman Gardens Park for an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony. The memorial is a short distance from the church, giving the morning a second focal point as Street remembers those who served.

The service begins at 10.30 am at Street Methodist Church, Leigh Road, Street, BA16 0HA, on Sunday, 13 September. The wreath-laying will follow at Street War Memorial, Merriman Gardens Park, and the public is welcome to attend.
