Plans have been submitted to Mendip District Council for two industrial units to be built in Glastonbury.

A planning application for the building of two adjoining general industrial units on land at Dyehouse Lane, Glastonbury, has been submitted by Glastonbury and Street county councillor Terry Napper.

The proposal is for the building of two Class B2, or general industrial, units on the land adjacent to the former Sewtech building, that was run by Mr Napper.

The development will include a mezzanine floor on the first floor, and office, WC and kitchenette on the ground floor in each unit.

The proposal will provide a degree of flexibility for employment, as the use of the building is classified as General Industries.

A previous application on the site was made in 2014 for the proposed building of one two-storey steel-framed office/workshop in which planning permission was granted and construction began within the three years from when permission was granted.

However, construction has not been completed and this application has now been made for the two units that will be smaller in size overall that the previously approved application.

There will be no change to the existing entrance to the site, which is over the Mill Stream via a bridge connecting the proposed land and adjacent land in which the former Sewtech building is located, set back from Dyehouse Lane.

The proposed development would provide 11 car parking spaces, including one blue badge parking space.

The application says: "The design of the proposed development strives to tie in with the surrounding buildings architecturally, taking its cues from the classification of land uses within the area.

"The proposed development will use a combination of corrugated sheets and stone to reflect that of the surrounding developments, and it adds to the amenity value of the community by providing employment."
