Residents in Street have taken to social media to warn about people acting suspiciously in the early hours of the morning.

According to local residents, suspicious figures were seen in the Quarry Road and Ringolds Way area, trying front doors and loitering outside houses with laptops, possibly attempting to scan for car keys and trying to open front doors.

This is against a backdrop of a recent surge in vehicle thefts in Street and Glastonbury.

Police are advocating for the adoption of various security measures and have issued a list of safety tips for vehicle owners in Street and Glastonbury:

  • Park in well-lit areas, preferably under CCTV surveillance.
  • Use steering locks, which remain effective even in newer vehicles.
  • Install and maintain car alarms; upgrade if necessary.
  • Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
  • Always hide valuables and avoid leaving them in plain sight in your car.
  • Regularly check that your car is locked and secure.
  • Consider vehicle tracking devices for higher-value cars.
  • Use Faraday pouches to block signals from key fobs.
  • Disable keyless entry features if possible.
  • Store car keys away from doors and windows at home to prevent signal cloning.

In addition to these precautions, community vigilance is crucial.

The police urge residents to report any suspicious activities immediately, using the 101 service for non-emergencies or 999 in urgent situations.

This community-wide alertness is key to deterring and preventing further vehicle thefts in the area.
