A new Community Speed Watch team has been launched in Street, with volunteers already carrying out their first checks alongside local police.

PCSO Richards from the Street Neighbourhood Team attended the first session of the new group this week, which took place on Somerton Road. The team used the opportunity to carry out speed monitoring in response to local concerns about road safety in the area.

The scheme is part of a wider initiative across Somerset, where trained volunteers work with police to help reduce speeding in residential areas and promote safer driving habits.

According to police, the Street team will now be active in various parts of the town over the coming months, with officers encouraging more residents to get involved.

"Community Speed Watch is a great way for local people to help tackle speeding in their own neighbourhoods," said a spokesperson. "It's about raising awareness and supporting efforts to keep our roads safer for everyone."

Anyone interested in joining Street's Community Speed Watch team can speak to a local Neighbourhood Officer or visit: https://orlo.uk/FBNaH
