Tor Webster, the Glastonbury tour guide, has been named as a finalist in this year's Somerset Tourism Awards for an app that puts the town within reach of everyone.

Tor, who has been running tours out of Glastonbury for nine years, told Glastonbury Nub News: "I was delighted to be nominated by an accommodation provider in Glastonbury.

"I make it a priority to work directly with local small businesses, as I know how important it is to support each other."

Despite the difficulties faced by the the tourism industry this year, Tor has made the most of his time in lockdown, working with a small team to create an app that offers tours "on demand".

Called OURTOR, named to honour one of Glastonbury's greatest legends and heroes King Arthur, the app will enable visitors to the town to download a wide variety of guided tours of the area - and further afield. They will also be able to take the tours virtually, wherever they are located.

Tor said: "It is so important to diversify in these difficult times, so the OURTOR app will hopefully draw even more people to Glastonbury.

"I have written a number of tours which will be available as a virtual or walking tours. As well as tours of Glastonbury and London, we are currently working with other guides who are writing tours for many destinations.

"It's very exciting to be able to bring our beloved home town to a worldwide audience."

The OURTOR app will shortly be available on the App stores for both Android and iOS.

Tor is nominated for the Unsung Hero Award, alongside two other Glastonbury tourism providers - the Abbey for their outside events, and Middlewick Farm who have been nominated in a number of categories.

All three will hear if they have won gold, silver, bronze or a special award when the results are announced on Awards Day, March 18.
