Police have commenced a murder investigation after a man was fatally assaulted in Baltonsborough.

The incident was reported to authorities at 4.31 pm on Thursday, 9 May, following a call from the ambulance service.

Upon arrival at Dunford Terrace, officers found the man, who was in his 40s, in a critical condition.

Despite the rapid response and concerted efforts of the emergency teams, he was declared dead at the scene at 5.30 pm. His identity has yet to be formally confirmed, but his family has been notified, and they are being supported during this distressing time.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested at the location on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody. The Major Crime Investigation Team is leading the inquiry into the incident's circumstances.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Lorett Spierenburg said: "Firstly, I'd like to express my sincerest condolences to the victim's family at this unimaginably difficult time. Our thoughts are with them, and specialist family liaison officers will support them and keep them updated on our investigation.

"Although our work is still at an early stage, we do believe this to be an isolated incident involving people known to each other and that there is no wider risk to the public.

"There will be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days while our enquiries are conducted.

"Neighbourhood officers will also carry out extra patrols over the coming days and if you have any concerns then please do speak to them."
