Mummified rats and bath-tub found in Red Brick clean-up
By Laura Linham 28th Apr 2026
Mummified rats, fridges, builders' waste, bank cards and a bath-tub were among the items found during a volunteer-led clean-up at Glastonbury's Red Brick Building yesterday.
The work took place after a pile of fly-tipped rubbish had become an eyesore on land owned by the Red Brick Building.
The clean-up was organised by Andy Denham, who started a fundraiser and raised £1,500 to hire a skip and digger, and volunteers worked from 8am to 6pm to remove rubble, waste and dumped items from the site.
In a statement after the clean-up, the Red Brick Building team said: "Huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who came down and got stuck in, the effort, energy and teamwork was just amazing.
"A full day's effort from 8am right through to 6pm, and what a transformation it's been. What's been achieved in one day is honestly incredible."
The group thanked Andy Denham and his family, Glastonbury litter pickers, Sleek Easy Clean, the Red Brick community, Cllr Ewan Cameron, Mike Pople, Somerset Waste Partnership and Glastonbury Skips.
They added: "From a huge pile of rubble and waste to a clear, open space ready for a fresh start… this is what community looks like."
Cllr Ewan Cameron also shared an update after the work, saying the clean-up was "almost there" and thanking those involved.
He added that CCTV cameras had now been installed to cover the site.
The land is owned by the Red Brick Building and was therefore not under Somerset Council's authority to clean up.
