Police are appealing for witnesses after a man used an angle grinder to damage lightning conductors at Glastonbury Tor — in full view of around 20 stunned onlookers.

The incident took place at around 3pm on Monday 23 June, with police confirming that members of the public attempted to intervene as the man vandalised the metal safety structures on the iconic Somerset landmark.

The suspect is described as white, in his late 30s, wearing shorts, no T-shirt, and "covered in tattoos".

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We understand there were around 20 members of the public in the area who attempted to stop him."

"We are calling on any of the witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers to get in touch. We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have filmed or taken photos of the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote reference 5225175321.
