Man arrested on Glastonbury High Street as police crack down on anti-social behaviour

A man has been arrested in Glastonbury town centre after refusing to leave the area when ordered to do so by police.
The incident took place on Glastonbury High Street this week, following a string of complaints from the public about the man's behaviour.
Neighbourhood officers responded and issued a Section 34 dispersal order—giving them the power to move people on to prevent disorder. When the man refused to comply, he was arrested at the scene.
The arrest comes amid growing frustration from residents over a recent rise in anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
Glastonbury has seen an uptick in complaints in recent months, with concerns raised about drinking, aggressive behaviour and disturbances near the High Street and local landmarks.
A police spokesperson said: "We take anti-social behaviour seriously and will continue using powers such as dispersal orders to protect the public. Officers acted swiftly following multiple reports from the community. When someone refuses to comply with a lawful direction to leave the area, we will take appropriate action."
This latest arrest follows the temporary closure of St John's Churchyard due to ongoing issues with safety and disorder—another step backed by police as part of efforts to restore calm in the area.
The Glastonbury Neighbourhood Policing Team says it will continue to monitor hotspots and respond robustly to any further incidents. Residents are urged to report issues via 101 to help officers build a clearer picture of problem areas.
